Mini workshops for children / City from ”1 meter perspective”
The project called ”City from 1 meter perspective” is an initiative of architects and urban planners which enables the youngest participants to express their preferences of the surrounding urban space - its appearance, shape and the selection of landscaping elements. Moreover, such a form of classes develops the ability to present expectations - through presenting children’s own works and launching the creative process as a result of correctly raised questions and set tasks - the final users-residents are able to state the reasons for which they like a building or not, and whether the surrounding public space seems nice and friendly or uninteresting and unaesthetic. The classes are an interesting activity – in terms of theme and form - for people of all ages, as an appropriate form of expression has been adjusted for all participants. The floor and the walls surface of the workshops’ interior will act as a flat color background for expression, using chalk, crayons, markers, etc. The place itself will provide some creative space for small architectural forms - possible thanks to previously prepared simple geometric blocks. The diversity of proposed techniques develop manual skills of children as well as their spatial perception of the surroundings.
It is also an attempt to outline the essence of space from the youngest recipients’ perspective and realize how valuable architectural and spatial education can be for their development, while still maintaining the cultural aspect of it. Organization of such creative forms in the city Centre will enable to promote architectural education among children, youth and adults, which will facilitate communication and exchange of ideas and experience between people professionally involved in creating the city image and its users. In addition to the educational and fun aspect offered by the workshops, they can serve as a valuable research material for studying preferences of residents and their children towards the arrangement of urban space.
